  • Aquaponic is a synergistic fusion of hydroponics (growing plants in water) and aquaculture (fish farming). While the fish fertilize the plants with natural nutrients of its waste products, the plants in turn filter the water for the fish.
  • The integration of plants and fish necessitates that NO chemical pesticides be used.It is an eloquent, balanced, organic system.
  • Raising fish and growing vegetables is one activity worth exploring. Enjoy the great taste and advantages of fresh, natural and healthy food. You will help reduce worldwide demand for scare resources and mitigate the rising food cost.
  • Go for this Eco-friendly way of producing sustainable fish and vegetables for your own consumption. Aquaponic works well for those with limited space too. Take action and start the journey!

Any help on designing a small aquaponic system for my bedroom?
The fish tank will be no bigger than 20 gallons. A shelved kind of stacked up system would be nice and not as space consuming.

It would complete the cycle ... fish waste > plants > plant produce > fish... rinse and repeat

I was thinking about starting my own mini aquaponic system?
I was planning on using tilapia as the fish and read the water space to fish ration is 1 2 lb to 1 gallon. I'm not exactly clear on what tilapia breeds can be eaten but are very small. What is a reasonable sized tank for a smaller breed of tilapia for a set up in my room? What are other breeds of fish that do well in an aquaponic system? I was thinking a 15 20 gallon tank would be reasonable. I'm not very interested in harvesting fish but more on harvesting the plants. Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.
