Aquaponic is a synergistic fusion of hydroponics
(growing
plants in water) and aquaculture (fish farming). While the fish
fertilize the plants with natural nutrients of its waste products, the
plants in turn filter the water for the fish.
The integration of plants and fish necessitates that
NO chemical pesticides be used.It is an eloquent, balanced, organic
system.
Raising fish and growing vegetables is one activity
worth
exploring. Enjoy the great taste and advantages of fresh, natural and
healthy food. You will help reduce worldwide demand
for scare
resources and mitigate the rising food cost.
Go for this Eco-friendly way of producing sustainable
fish
and vegetables for your own consumption. Aquaponic works well for those
with limited space too. Take action and start the journey!
I have an small indoor aquaponics system and I'm wondering about the selection of fish I can have?
The tank is 45 gallons. Because it's indoor, I'm not looking to do any serious fish farming. I'll be growing herbs, leafy vegetables, and eventually peppers and tomatoes once the system is well established. My question is what fish work well with the system? I'm guessing filtration isn't as great compared to using an actual filter, but because this isn't large scale system, I'm not looking to raise tilapia, catfish, or bass, ect. What fish work well in this system that are standard maintenance and also very fun to have?
Mini aquaponics system?
how can i make a cheap, mini aquaponics systemi am only 14 years old and i just have 1 goldfish
Plants I can use in an aquaponics system?
I saw a picture on the internet, where this pump sucks water out of a fish tank, sends it up to an area where plants grow and the water goes through a substrate or something where it filters out a lot of the bad content nitrate and stuff plants love , then it delivers the remaining water back into the fish tank to repeat the cycle. Now, if I remember correctly, can't you drown a lot of plants? Or most plants?I was thinking about maybe growing something neat like vegetables, and aiding the growth of the vegetables with my crayfish tank who are very messy eaters .For these types of aquaponic set ups, do you have to turn the water on and off? Or can the cycle keep going and you just don't have to worry about your plants drowning? If drowning is an issue, what plants do I use?ThanksChris
Getting a aquaponics system for my room and can't decide on what type of fish?
Because the tank is only ten gallons, that put most fish out of the question. I really don't want koi, but I was wondering if there were smaller breeds of tilapia I could get, something I can eat.
Do i have to cycle aquaponics system?
If so how, i already have 2 goldfish in the 20 gallon system total. So far i have a maple tree, 2 peppers, 1 cucumber, and a couple tomatoes that im cloning with mint that im cloningtamatoes in the system with a cloning foam but mint is in a glass of water.
What is the cost to build and start an aquaponics system?
I have built and been running a homemade hydroponics system in my gagrage growing tomatos and have recently discovered aquaponics using fish for the nutrient supply does anyone have experince in this, how much is the starting investment?any explaination as to what epoc is?any explaination as to what epoc is?
What pesticide to use in a aquaponics system?
HiI am interested in setting up my own aquaponics system and have it pretty much all planned out, there is just one issue. I know that you can't use any herbicides or pesticides because it will kill the fish but are there any alternatives that can be used? Any homemade products? I just don't know how successful it will be. I live in Sydney a rural area and I'm just not sure whether my veggies will survive. Please only tried and tested methods as I don't want to kill my fish Thanks
Should i do water changes when cycling an aquaponics system?
I have just set up an aquaponics system. It is a 10 gallon tank stocked with 2 goldfish and a pump that drains into 10 pounds of gravel, which then drip drains back into the tanks. Everywhere that I look that describes cycling of a standard fish tank says to do 20 % water changes weekly. Is it the same for an aquaponics system prior to planting in the growbed, or should I just let all of the nitrites build up in the system and then plant?

Bugs in Aquaponics system?
I have an aquaponic system at my home. Aquaponics and hydroponics are not the same thing, but very similar. Basically in aquaponics you are adding fish in the picture, the fish poop fertilizes the plants, and the plants clean the water for the fish. Anyways, I am growing lettuce in my system, my lettuce is being eaten by insects. I did a little research and Dipel and Bontanigard eliminate worms and nats. Where I live we are going through a drought, we have 5 different kinds of roaches at my house. 4 of the 5 kinds have taken up residence in my lettuce, the roaches are everywhere. I heard neem oil will take care of them but if the oil gets on the lettuce, the plant wont taste good. Would Dipel and Bontanigard take care of the roaches ? Or are there other products I can try that will be safe for my system and myself?
